What is CeMAP?
If you’re looking to become a mortgage adviser in the UK, CeMAP is where it starts.
CeMAP (Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice) is a Level 3 qualification awarded by the London Institute of Banking & Finance (AKA Wallbrook Institute).
It’s the industry-recognised qualification that allows you to give regulated mortgage advice, and without it, you simply can’t operate in this space.
But more importantly, it’s the thing that takes you from thinking about a career in finance… to actually being able to build one.
CeMAP is a Level 3 qualification that gives you the knowledge and qualifications needed to advise clients on mortgages and protection.
It’s broken down into three parts:
CeMAP 1 (Now FSRE)
Covers the foundation of financial services, regulation, and ethics. This is where everything starts.
CeMAP 2
Dives into mortgage products, policies, and the technical side of how mortgages actually work.
CeMAP 3
Focuses on applying your knowledge to real-life client scenarios, this is where you learn how to actually advise.
Once you’ve passed all three, you’re fully qualified to give mortgage advice in the UK.
How long does it take?
You can take CeMAP at your own pace, whether that’s alongside a full-time job, around kids, or going all-in to get qualified as quickly as possible. Official LIBF guidance suggests taking 6 months per exam to study IF you're using just the textbook.
Some people take a few months, but you absolutely can fast-track it in a matter of weeks.
There isn’t one “right” timeline, just the one that works for you.

If you want to pass your CeMAP qualification, Charlotte's Master Class is all you will need. I took the master class with very little experience of mortgages (never even had one myself) and I passed all three exams first time. The course is brilliant, really engaging and informative, it was so much easier than attempting to learn anything from the CeMAP text book. She has lots of quirky little ways to help you understand and remember the vast amount of information in the CeMAP study material. She is really supportive and genuinely cares about your learning. Charlotte gives a really nice personal feel to your learning journey and supports you on a 1:1 basis even after you've completed the actual teaching sessions.
